According to a project of the engineer Celedonio de Uribe, it was placed at one of the most salient points in Arosa Island so that was visible from the greater possible number of ports located on "Ría de Arosa" and from its entry too. It was a lighthouse of 4º order with an optic Lepaute, exactly the same as the fixed part which had the lighthouse of Sálvora Island. The lantern, made by the same manufacturer, was hexagonal and joined with the apparatus had cost 8,073.50 pesetas. It had the focal plan at 6 meter of height over the land and at 13 over the medium level of the sea. Its coverage had been calculated about 7.1 miles.
The building, with rectangular form, housed two rooms, one for each lighthouse keeper, and a common kitchen. The rest of covered surface was occupied for a warehouse and an aisle of distribution. The tower is a truncated-pyramide of octagonal section and is built-in until middle into one of the facades; at the top, the balcony and the turret, also octagonal, finished by a lantern.
The works began in 1852, the month of April and were finished in October of same year lighting for first time in 1853, October the 19th. Its construction cost 32,531 "reales" (old spanish money).
It was attended by two lighthouse-keepers and supplied with a lamp of plunger using oil as combustible. Years later this lamp would be replaced by a Maris using petroleum. In 1904 is ordered place a lighter for lighting permanent, coupling it a system of screens in order to give the following characteristic: groups of two hidings with white light, and in this way, getting its automation. Purchased this set to the B.B.T house., jobs are finished November the 10th, 1917, date on the new installation would light, although continuing with the old Maris lamp.
Seven years later, on April the 22nd, would enter on Service a set of winking light AGA which would give four winking lights every 8 seconds, with a coverage of 13.5 miles in ordinary time. This reformation originated the suppresion of staff. Subsequently, in accordance with the Plan of Maritime Lights 1985/ 89, it was electrified with industrial net, feeder-loader and battery of reserve, also is installed an acrylic optic of 305 millimetres, situation which remains at the present time.
