Located in the point of its name, its construction is relatively modern. It was created in order to link "Corrubedo" and "Finisterre", helping so to mark a very dangerous zone for the sailing, abundant in shoals and reefs. This obliged to divide its characteristic in several sectors with several different identification. Its antecedents go back to the year 1904 when, for "Real Orden" on July the 2nd, the "Plan General de Balizamiento de la Costa Noroeste" is approved , that determines the necessity of constructing, to the greater brevity, a lighthouse of 4º order in "Punta Insua".
One year after it would be taken a agreement that" "the new lighthouse destined to be used as a guide to the navigator in the vicinity of the "Meixidos" shoals, has an appearance of 2+ 2 white flashes with a height of focal plan of 25 meters and a range not minor of 7 miles.""
A more complete study is carried out in 1911 , this characteristic is rectified and decides to that the light is fix with four sectors: one that includes the "Meixidos" shoals and the superior, in the fourth quadrant, of white color; that includes the rest shoals and the inferior, in the second quadrant and part of the third of red color. The light will present ocultations in groups of two and one in the adjacents sectors.
The author of the project was the engineer D. Salvador López Miño, awarding the work to the contractor D. Silvino Garrido in 55,600 pesetas that was finished on August the 30th of 1913.
In order to get the appearance it was contracted with the house Julius Pintch, of Berlin, the acquisition in 35,487.50 pesetas of a system Otter screens, worked by a machine of watchmaking, a cylíndrical lantern of 2.50 meters of diameter with fused iron turret, covered inwardly of mahogany, and a lamp of incandescence by vapor of petroleum.
In a beginning it had been marked the appearance of 2+ 2 white flashes and, with arrangement to it,became the corresponding project of apparatus, turret and lantern. The proposals presented by the manufacturers were so exagerated that was resolved to change it the characteristic and take advantage of the firm apparatus of third order, great model, and 500 millimetres of focal distance that had been moved back of the lighthouse of "Punta Grossa", in the island of Ibiza, already useless due to the construction of the lighthouse of "Tagomago".
With these premises the lighthouse is inaugurated, that entered in service for first time the day on October the 25th of 1921. The building, of an only plant in form of "U", capable for two housings, office, room of motors and warehouse , with truncated-pyramide tower of octogonal section finished off by a balcony and cylíndrical turret that forms part of the same lantern,is preserved without substantial modifications until the day of today.
The only difference on the foreseen was the lamp of petroleum that would be of the Pintch type for hood of 40 millimetres and a Maris of two wicks like reservation. On November the 6th of 1935 it would be substituted for a Chance of 55 millimetres that remained like principal until the electrificatión of the lighthouse on September the11st of 1947, in that it was replaced by an electric lamp of 1,500 W. passing to it reserve.
